HONG KONG, January 31, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — In response to the peak season of COVID-19 infection in rural areas which may be caused by people returning home during Chinese New Year, the Fosun Foundation has announced the January 9, 2023 cooperation with Fosun Pharma and Genuine Biotech to donate 100 million RMB value of tablets of Azvudine, the oral drug against COVID-19, helping the base to cope with the epidemic. From January 29, 2023under the “A Healthy Winter Action” campaign, a total of 173,200 bottles of Azvudine tablets were donated to 116 counties in 19 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, including YunnanTibet, Xinjiang, Hainan, Anhui, jiangxiNingxi, Sichuan, Chongqingand Heilongjiang. Azvudine tablets, the first domestically developed small molecule drug for COVID-19, have helped at least 150,000 villagers through the outbreak more safely, most of whom were people over the age of 65. years.

Since its inception, “A Healthy Winter Action” has faced two major challenges. First, how do you deliver supplies to the base during the peak Spring Festival travel period? Second, how to accurately distribute the drugs to the villagers who need them?

While negotiating cooperation with SF Express, the Fosun Foundation urgently recruited nearly a hundred volunteer employees within Fosun and its subsidiaries. In coordination with their Spring Festival homecoming plan, the volunteers personally delivered medicine to donated counties.

In addition to volunteer Fosun employees, SF Express also fully supported the donation. Medicine delivery did not stop during the Spring Festival. Guo Shuaideputy general secretary and project manager of the Fosun Foundation, stayed in the office throughout the Spring Festival to ensure that the materials were immediately shipped to SF Express’s transshipment warehouse and then delivered by air.

How to ensure that the villagers with the most urgent needs can receive medicines in time? According to Ning Guang, consultant of the Expert Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control of Rural Physicians Program and President of Ruijin Hospital Affiliated with Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine, “Rural physicians must have medicine in their hands, and grassroots people need to get medicine in time.” The Fosun Foundation first covered the 72 counties of the rural doctor program which has been running for five years and provided as much medicine as possible to rural doctors through the health department before the Spring Festival.

On January 16, the first batch of 600 bottles of Azvudine tablets donated to Lancang County, Yunnan Province was delivered by Zhao ZhongResident member of Rural Doctors Program, Lancang County Township Hospital, then village clinics. Zhong Lipingrural doctor in Yanyin village, Sakai Township, received a message from villager Zhong Asuo on the morning of the fifth day of the Chinese New Year: “Thank you for the Azvudine tablets sent by Fosun Foundation before the Chinese New Year. My dad felt much better the next day after taking the medicine. “Before taking the Azvudine tablets, Zhong Asuo’s 87-year-old father had a fever, cough and other symptoms. When she learned that the Fosun Foundation had donated to the county from Lancang, Zhong Liping immediately thought of distributing medicine to the elderly. Zhong Liping “It’s this kind of feedback that makes me realize the importance of being a rural doctor.”

In order to improve the diagnostic skills of rural doctors, the Fosun Foundation and the Shanghai Guangci Translational Medical Research Foundation jointly established an expert committee led by Chen Erzhen, vice president of Ruijin Hospital. Medical experts from more than 20 provinces provided targeted training to rural doctors in the form of recorded lectures and question-and-answer sessions. Relevant training was launched on the application of Fosun Health and People’s Good Doctor. So far, more than 15,000 rural doctors have received the online training. On January 13, with the organization of the Guizhou Provincial Health Commission and the Fosun Foundation, Zhang Wenhong, member of the expert committee, director of the National Medical Center for Infectious Diseases and professor of Huashan Hospital affiliated with Fudan University, conducted online training for rural doctors in Guizhou.

In addition to the medicine, 37 care packages worth 150,000 RMB were sent to the base, which contained medical supplies that were in short supply at the base, such as oximeters, oxygen concentrators, face masks, and nitrile gloves. These packages were donated by public welfare partners, including the Industrial and Commercial Bank of Chinathe “New Philanthropy Program” of the new social stratum of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, Shanghai Pudong Development (Group) Co., Ltd., Taiping Pension Co., Ltd., YouChange China Social Entrepreneur Foundation , Pingdingshan Volunteers Association , Chengdu Charitable Federation, SF Express Group (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., Yeswood, Wuxi Qicheng Industrial Co., Ltd., Institute of Innovations, Tongxinhui, Xinjiang Juchen Law Firm, Jiangsu No. 33 Business Management Co., Ltd., Wuxi Yushou Medical Appliances Co., Ltd. , Shanghai Tuyue Business Advisory Co., Ltd., Power Construction Corporation of Chinaand Shanghai Charity Foundation Xuhui District Representative Office Ningguo Temple 456 Cultural Special Fund, and ONE Fosun volunteer enterprises such as Shede Spirits, Jinhui Liquor, Hainan Mining and Golte.

In addition, in order to enhance the digital capacity of primary healthcare institutions, Shanghai Aitrox Technology Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of Fosun, donated digital imaging systems, digital ultrasound systems and medical services. refined operation to township primary hospitals, covering 10 township hospitals by the end of April this year, the first batch of donations amounting to about 5 million RMB.

At January 28, 2023, the first day of work, the project team resumed regular meetings twice a day. At the regular meeting that evening, Chen Qiyu, co-CEO of Fosun International, said, “We have completed half of the 100 million RMB drug donation and achieved 2/3 of the donation goal to 180 counties. We must continue to race against the virus and prepare for the next wave of infection spikes. For example, we need to cover at least 20 other counties in the Tibet Autonomous Region; we need to focus on protecting the elderly in cities below the third tier and in rural nursing homes. The donation of approximately 400,000 bottles of Azvudine tablets worth 100 million RMB launched jointly by Fosun and Genuine Biotech was considered the largest public drug donation in recent years. We hope to play its due role in revitalizing China’s rural areas and building a China.”
