Intel’s Core i5-13400 desktop processor appeared in tests at an Indonesian tech outlet, Championand shows up to 30% improvement over its predecessor.
Intel Core i5-13400 processor delivers 30% performance boost with 30% higher power consumption, but same cool temperature
There have been recent reports that some Asian retailers have already started selling the Intel 13th Gen non-K processors ahead of launch in early January. The processors will be accompanied by a new line of B760 motherboards when they launch on January 3. While this This is certainly not the first time that we have looked at the references of this particular chip.this is definitely the first time a retail chip has leaked.

In terms of specifications, the Intel Core i5-13400 processor includes 6 P cores and 4 E cores which total 10 cores and 16 threads. The processor has a base clock speed set at 2.5 GHz and a boost clock speed set at 4.1 GHz on all cores and 4.6 GHz on a single core. The processor comes with 28MB of L3 cache and will have a PL1 TDP of 65W and a PL2 TDP of around 120W. The processor is expected to be a hot seller in the budget segment given its jump in performance and a value of around US$200 where Intel’s 12th Gen lineup already dominates.
Intel Core i5-13400 vs Core i5-12400 CPU Benchmarks (Credits: Jawara):
Regarding performance, the Intel Core i5-13400 was compared to the Core i5-12400 in a short series of tests. The test rig included an ASRock B660M PG Riptide motherboard and 16GB of DDR4-3600 memory. In the Cinebench R23 single-threaded Core i5-13400 processor is 6% faster than the i5-12400, and multi-threaded results show up to 30% performance improvement. The processor also sends 22% faster in Blender and Adobe Premier.
Intel Core i5-13400 vs Core i5-12400 CPU Power & Time (Credits: Jawara):

The most important metric is the power and temperature numbers. In the Cinebench R23 multithreaded tests, the Intel Core i5-13400 consumed 30% more power than the Core i5-12400 (86W vs. 66W) and during that time temperatures were mostly the same as the chip. Alder Lake around the 60C mark which is definitely good to see. Again, the Core i5-13400 shouldn’t boost power numbers much in games and these should end up falling short of the 30% jump seen in multi-threaded benchmarks such as Cinebench R23. Expect more information on the 13th Gen non-K lineup at CES 2023.
