“As we all know, the pandemic has taken a massive toll on Americans and created a mental health epidemic. We’ve seen an increase in depression, stress, anxiety, and major behavioral issues, and more people are seeking psychiatric care,” said Susan Mueller, co-founder and CEO of Relief Mental Health. Mueller has worked in the mental health field for more than a decade.

One in five American adults suffers from mental illness each year, according to the society. The Monmouth County Mental Health Association cites a report on the state of mental health in the country that confirms this.

Twenty-one percent of adults suffer from a mental illness, which equates to more than 50 million Americans, is a statistic in this report. The report offers other statistics on youth mental health, for example, and in other categories as well.

Relief Mental Health cites an April 2021 study published in Lancet Psychiatry in which the link between Covid-19 and mental and cognitive health problems is investigated.

Since the start of the pandemic, the demand for mental health treatment has skyrocketed, Mueller said.

“We are honored to be able to open at Red Bank and provide innovative treatment to more New Jerseyans so they can find much-needed relief from their emotional pain,” she said in A press release.

Relief cites its various services at its new location in Red Bank:

It serves patients through the use of TMS, which is indicated for the treatment of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and/or major depressive disorder, according to the company.

TMS is FDA-approved, non-invasive, and causes no adverse or lasting side effects, the press release states. It does not require a significant recovery period and has a 20-minute treatment period for its session.

“Many people who have not received adequate results with antidepressants or other forms of treatment have found great relief with TMS therapy,” the company says.

For patients with treatment-resistant depression or major depressive disorder with suicidal thoughts or actions, Relief also offers Spravato, a prescription nasal spray form of ketamine and the first psychedelic drug to be FDA-approved for the treatment of mental illness, the society says.

For those who need more emotional support to address other mental health issues such as trauma or anxiety and develop healthy coping skills, Relief has licensed therapists available for individual and family counselling, says the society.

Relief also provides medication management and can usually see patients within a week of the initial call, the company says.

On its website, the company says its psychiatric drug program has a “team of psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and associate physicians.”

Relief accepts most major commercial insurance plans, including Medicare.
