You won’t be able to guess what turn this new sci-fi horror trailer will take

We thought we knew where this was leading…turns out we had no idea.

A first trailer hit the web this week for the new sci-fi horror movie Overflowing swimming pool and boy, is he a savage.

The film stars Alexander Skarsgård and Cleopatra Coleman as James and Em, a wealthy couple vacationing at an all-inclusive resort on the fictional island of La Tolqa.

Guided by the seductive and mysterious Gabi (Mia Goth, X), the couple venture outside the compound during which James hits someone with his car.

Much to his horror, James discovers that the crime for any punishment done on the island is death. However, for a hefty fee, he is allowed to rapidly grow a clone of himself to replace his runtime.

While that in itself would probably already be enough nightmare fuel to sustain a sci-fi horror, the trailer continues – showing Gabi, James and others engaging in various hedonistic and violent acts after the execution.

Even more disturbing is the fact that they wear extremely grotesque masks that are supposedly made of human skin.

The film is written and directed by Brandon Cronenberg, who directed one of the best sci-fi horrors of recent years with 2020’s Possessor. He also happens to be the son of legendary filmmaker David Cronenberg.

Infinity Pool doesn’t yet have an Irish release date but will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in the US next month.

Meanwhile, earlier in the week, JOE covered trailers for the sci-fi movie mickey 17 and TV shows The last of us and Treason in separate articles.
